The density of the carpet: what is it and what does it affect?
When, during the renovation period, we go to the store for a new thing in order to give meaning to the already adopted interior solutions, we are guided by the principle of "seeing". We throw all our strength into proving that we have taste and need for self-expression. And we forget about the most important thing - about quality. The durability of carpets is primarily based on the quality of the material, the durability of the pile, the retention of the dyes and the density, which is a key criterion.

What is the density of a carpet?

In the manufacture of carpets, the density is called the ratio per 1 sq. M. the number of pile knots and the number of threads in one such knot. Together with the number of knots, the quality of the carpet itself grows at the same time, which provides:

  • long product life
  • preservation of the original appearance
  • pile elasticity
  • clarity of ornament
  • pollution resistance

How to choose a carpet for a long time?

It all depends on the place in which you plan to place it: what is the permeability, humidity, temperature. The following classification will help to navigate the choice, according to which the density of carpets:

  1. Low - 38-100 thousand knots per m2. Has coverings that are mainly woven from coarse natural fibers. Not endowed with uniqueness of patterns and reliability.
  2. Average - 100-325 thousand nodes per m2. The most common type of canvases, which includes middle segment fabrics: natural, synthetic and combined fibers. They are versatile in use, pleasant to the touch, with a rather elastic pile.
  3. High density - from 325 thousand to 1 million nodes per m2. Cloths of expensive fabrics with fine yarns, which stand out from the rest with their increased strength and expressive pattern.
  4. Super-high density - 1-1.5 million knots per square meter. This quality belongs to the premium class, largely due to the materials used (mainly silk) and the exclusivity of the ornamentation.
For those who bought carpets based on the above classification, it will not be difficult to come to the conclusion about how strongly the density affects the wear resistance of the product.

Carpets with a density of up to 100 thousand knots per square meter are the coarsest stiff products from the same yarn. This characteristic only plays into the hands when we need a rug at the entrance to the house, cottage or bath. Often these are jute rugs that smell like sun, fresh wind and sunflowers. In addition to the atmosphere and comfort, such products bring a minimum of hassle to everyday life, as they are easy to clean. The high density of carpets is suitable for high traffic areas such as living rooms, reception rooms and dining rooms. As a rule, high-density paths and rugs last longer and retain their original appearance better, which allows us not to worry about the appearance of rooms intended for meetings with family for a long time. For bedrooms and children's rooms, the most pleasant will be a medium-density canvas, in which the pile feels soft and soothing. Children will feel the comfort and home environment where they can relax and feel safe. The last point plays a key role when it comes to the selection of interior items for a children's bedroom, since many at a young age have anxiety, disturbed sleep rhythm and insomnia. By paying attention to these characteristics, you can guarantee yourself harmony in the family. To visually determine the density of the carpet, we advise you to press and release the pile with your finger: the faster it returns to its previous state, the denser the product. By paying attention to these characteristics, you can guarantee yourself harmony in the family. To visually determine the density of the carpet, we advise you to press and release the pile with your finger: the faster it returns to its previous state, the denser the product. By paying attention to these characteristics, you can guarantee yourself harmony in the family. To visually determine the density of the carpet, we advise you to press and release the pile with your finger: the faster it returns to its previous state, the denser the product.
